TELMISARTAN

• Angiotensin receptor blocker; shows terminal elimination half-life of 24h
• Significantly greater reduction in mean diastolic BP during night-time and the last 4h of dosing interval than amlodipine

HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE

• Reduces the reabsorption of electrolytes in the kidney thus reduces plasma volume
• Leads to the reduction in peripheral resistance and thus blood pressure
